Past and present receive their due at this two-family townhouse in the New York City borough of Brooklyn.

Set in Bedford-Stuyvesant, a neighborhood filled with turn-of-the-century brownstones, the renovated and updated residence exemplifies the historic architecture of the area. While the façade and original structure date to 1899, the footprint has been expanded out and up.

Beyond the classic curb appeal and original exposed brick are a slew of less-apparent tech features. The fully automated house has Wi-Fi-enabled locks, wireless sound system, Nest temperature controls, video security and alarm sensors, among other modern amenities.

Herringbone-patterned wood flooring lines the open-plan main floor, which contains the living room, dining room, a decorative fireplace and kitchen appointed with marble countertops, stainless-steel appliances, two sinks and an eat-at center island. A sliding glass door at the back of the house opens to a deck that overlooks the landscaped backyard.

The three upper-level bedroom suites have wide-plank hardwood oak flooring and heated bathroom floors. The primary suite occupies an entire floor and is topped by a roof deck.

Adding to the desirability of the townhouse is the garden-level unit with an open kitchen, living and dining areas, one bedroom and finished recreation space. Plus, the two-family residence is turnkey ready for move-in and rental, according to listing agents Alexis Carpinello and Thomas Duger of Elegran.

“With construction costs and timelines so high these days, this is key,” Carpinello says. “A buyer here avoids having to pay to carry a vacant home while they renovate and wait on permits.”

A further plus of the property’s two units, she says, is “you don’t need board approval to rent them, refinance or take out a home equity line of credit down the line.”

The 3,670-square-foot property at 113 Jefferson Avenue also benefits from its location bordering both upscale Clinton Hill, with its numerous bars and eateries, and tree-lined Prospect Heights. Coffee shops, restaurants and public transport are steps away.

The asking price is US $2.999 million.
