A Framingham pastor has been indicted on charges of child rape, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced Tuesday.

Francis Strahan, 89, was indicted Monday by a Middlesex Grand Jury on one count of rape of a child by force and three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

Strahan is accused of sexually assaulting a male student at Saint Bridgets School on two occasions when the victim was between the ages of 11 and 13, officials said.Read more: Framingham man arrested, charged with possession of ghost gun, police say

From 2004 until 2008, Strahan served as a pastor at Saint Bridgets Parish in Framingham where the alleged victim was an altar server, officials said.

On one occasion when the victim was dropped off for altar service and was alone in the church, the defendant allegedly raped and sexually assaulted him, Ryans office said in a news release. On another occasion, the defendant allegedly assaulted the victim again by pressing his body against the victim who was again at Saint Bridgets for altar serving.Read more: Springfield man dies of gunshot injuries on Walden St. Tuesday, police say

An arraignment date for Strahan has not yet been scheduled.

The Archdiocese of Boston cooperated with the investigation of this case, officials said.
