7-year-old boy mauled to death by pack of dogs, vicious attack sends mother into emergency surgery

A 7-year-old boy was mauled to death in a viciousdog attackin Idaho. The boys mother attempted to save her son from the pack of dogs, but she was too late.

Just before 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, Kellan Islas went outside of an RV where he was staying with his mother on the Fort Hall Reservation. When her son didnt return after a few minutes, Emily Islas went to check on Kellan.

The mother found her son lying face down near the front porch with four dogs mauling the young boy. There were two Rottweilers and two mixed breeds attacking the 7-year-old boy.

A GoFundMe pagesaid Emily did everything in her power to protect Kellan from that attack.

She is an amazing woman and mother and sacrificed herself to try and save her little boy, the organizer of the GoFundMe campaign stated.

First responders arrived at the scene and transported the mother and son to Portneuf Medical Center approximately 50 miles southwest of Idaho Falls. Kellan was pronounced dead from the injuries he sustained in the brutal dog attack.

Emily was rushed into emergency surgery. The mother reportedly suffered sustained nerve damage and a ruptured artery in her right arm as well as damage to the back of her head, left arm, and her back, according to her friend. The mother is still reportedly in the intensive care unit.

The Shoshone-Bannock Tribes noted that neither the owners of the dogs nor the mother and son are members of the tribe.

All four dogs involved in the fatal mauling were euthanized.

The New York Postreported, The owners of the pets, identified as Benjamin and Juliana Wolfchild, were cited for 15 violations related to the mauling, including vicious animal attack, rabies vaccination, and over the limit of canine or feline pets.

The Shoshone-Bannock Tribessaid, Fort Hall Criminal Investigators, the FBI, Fort Hall Police, and Fish & Game are conducting an ongoing investigation.

This case will be presented to the United States Attorney to review for possible federal charges.

In another dog attack this month, an 11-year-old Georgia boy had80% of his scalp torn offwhen three pit bulls mauled him.

In December, a 4-day-old baby waskilled by the familys Siberian husky.

In October, two small children in Tennessee weremauled to death by the familys two pit bulls. The mother of the children was also attacked. She survived but needed to be hospitalized.

DogsBite.org, a national dog bite victims advocacy group, found that of the fatal dog attacks in 2019, 69% were committed by pit bulls, 13% were by mixed breeds, and 8% were by Rottweilers.
