Seven New Jersey universities ranked among the top in the world for academic research and reputation, according to figures released by U.S. News & World Report on Tuesday.
In its rankings of 2,000 universities from 90 countries, 280 were in the United States, and seven were in New Jersey.
Princeton ranked 16th, Rutgers-New Brunswick ranked 143, Rutgers-Newark ranked 598, New Jersey Institute of Technology ranked 826, Montclair State University ranked 1008, Stevens Institute of Technology was 1225th, and Rowan University was 1668.
Princetons rank was unchanged from last year, while Montclair State University rose 159 spots, and Rutgers-Newark rose 2.
Rowan University fell 67 spots, Stevens Institute of Technology fell 23, and Rutgers-New Brunswick and New Jersey Institute of Technology fell 13.
While last year the United States had the most universities on the list, with 271, this year it came in second, with 280, after China, with 338.
The schools were also ranked by field, with Rutgers-New Brunswick ranking 25th worldwide for food science and technology, 49th in agriculture, and 239th in clinical medicine. Princeton ranked 26th in arts and humanities and 40th in computer science.
The listings measure a universitys global and regional research reputation and academic research performance, based in part on publications, citations, and international collaborations.
