Bill Belichick isnt tipping his hand regarding his teams starting quarterback situation.
On Monday, the New England Patriots coach was asked whether Mac Jones would return as the starting quarterback over rookie Bailey Zappe when he gets healthy. Belichick went to a familiar refrain in avoiding the question.
Well see how that process is, Belichick said. Mac still wasnt able to play yesterday. Well continue to evaluate him and see how hes doing physically.
Belichick has leaned on calling things a process this year when responding to questions he doesnt want to talk about. Its a well he went to early and often when addressing questions about the teams play-calling situation this season.
This also marks the second week in a row where Belichick was asked about the starting quarterback situation and he declined to make a declaration.
Well see what it looks like today and go from there, Belichick said last week when asked.
Jones has missed the past three games with an ankle injury suffered late in the Patriots Week 3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Signs point to Jones being closer to returning, as hes been a more active participant in practice and wasnt officially scratched from the lineup until just before Sundays game against the Cleveland Browns.
Eyes will be on practice this week as Jones inches closer to return and questions linger over who the starting quarterback will be. Well get a better idea when the team releases its first injury report of the week on Wednesday. The Patriots will also have a little extra time to let Jones heal up as they host the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football this week.
