Officials on Friday said police would boost patrols in Wildwood amid reports of an unsanctioned pop-up car rally in the Jersey Shore city.

Known as H2oi or H2022, the gathering was previously held in Ocean City, Maryland, where authorities faced speeding cars, crashes and large crowds.

This is an unsanctioned event, city police Chief Robert Regalbuto said in a statement. The City of Wildwood Police Department will have extra personnel on duty should participants interested in this event decide to visit our community and not comply with state laws and municipal ordinances.

Regalbuto said officers would have a zero tolerance policy toward traffic violations. The event is planned from Friday through Sunday, according to Wildwood officials.

The Board of Commissioners emphasizes that all visitors to the Wildwoods are welcome and are expected to obey all ordinances and laws during their visit, city officials said in the statement.

Social media posts promoted Wildwood for the H2022 pop-up and showed cars around the city. Similar gatherings in Maryland led to an increase in crashes and arrests, according to a report on delmarvanow.com.

On Facebook, some comments shared hope the event would not be a repeat of past chaos in Ocean City.

Just to make it clear to everyone cause some people seem to still keep posting burnout videos, this is a laid back event, one social media post said.

We need to be respectful to the residents of Wildwood. This event is for real car enthusiasts. This is not a 2step or burnout contest. Come have a good time, cruise around, see some nice cars, eat some good food, spend some money, most importantly be safe and respectful, a message on another Facebook group said.
